By Zeb Wells (Writer) Paulo Rivera (Art) Javier Rodriguez and Dean White (Colour Art)
Story: Whilst out taking his test to become a New-York cabbie, Peter Parker literally runs into the Punisher and decides to follow him to a warehouse in Queens. Spider-Man learns that the Punisher has disrupted some of Moses Magnum’s arms deals and is waiting for the villain to appear. Spider-Man decides that he cannot allow the Punisher to kill anyone else, but as he tries to stop him, he is rendered unconscious by the Punisher’s Sonic device just as Moses Magnum enters the warehouse. After regaining his senses, Spider-Man tracks down the Punisher only to find him on the receiving end of a good pistol-whipping before he releases him. They then proceed to beat the tar out of Magnum before the Punisher puts a bullet in his gut, making Spider-Man choose between saving Magnum or taking him in.
What’s good: Despite taking a lot of flack over the “Brand New Day” fiasco, The Amazing Spider-Man continues to be a consistently good read, incredible really, considering that the creative teams change every few issues. This is really old school Spider-Man with Rivera’s art coming very close to Steve Ditko’s version, whilst Zeb Wells really nails the wallcrawler’s witty banter.
What’s not so Good: No complaints here, even the J.J. Jameson interlude story is pretty entertaining as he is actually accused of being the Spider-Tracer Killer.
Conclusion: Another solid issue from the Spidey Braintrust, and if they keep putting out stories this entertaining, I’ll keep buying them.
Grade: B+
