And I really wasn’t expecting too. It feels to me that Fraction has, at least in issue #1m achieved a good balance of IMPORTANT THINGS HAPPENING, character moments, setup for the bigger plot to come, and tying it in (loosely) to some current events. I like that.

Also, the fact that Tony Stark is really, like for seriously, taking a stand against this whole “fear” thing, and trying to express to people that the world can be a better place–and the fact that he asked all of his fellow heroes to be there when he makes that announcement–made me so happy. I don’t think his character has ever really recovered from Civil War, either in the eyes of the readers or the other Marvel heroes. I felt like that scene, small as it was, was a great way to get everyone back together with a common goal and on the same side again. Since Tony and Steve Rogers are my two favorite Marvel characters, it was really nice to see that gap seriously starting to be bridged.

Bendis re-used the Stamford incident as the accelerant to set his absurd story on fire. We should all be thankful that Bendis is not writing this event.

I didn’t love this issue, but to say that any issue of Siege was better than this is very unfair.

The hastily thrown together Volstagg disaster alone was hideous.

After all of the solicitations, previews, and interviews, there was nothing surprising in this issue that could have been really awesome.
