Incidentally, I’ve read through a great chunk of Perdido Street Station and boy, do I ever know what you mean about MiĆ©ville’s writing now. That man definitely does not see the world the same way we do.

I love to reread issues, because I’m always noticing new nuances and particular choices of language. There’s just this feeling I get from the series that stays with me a long time after I read it, like any good novel.

And I commend your pull list. Some very excellent titles listed in there.

All-New X-Men surprisingly being pretty good.

Thor: God of Thunder and Cap being revelations.

The Image “Big 3” of 2012: Saga, Manhattan Projects, and Fatale.

My favourite novelist, China Mieville, enters comics.

Scott Snyder officially becomes a superstar who has DC’s best-selling title and is probably their second best selling author next to Johns.

I feel like I should make mention of Matt Kindt and Kelly Sue Deconnick, given that this has been a breakout year for both of them but….I’m honestly just not that huge a fan of either of them, even if i recognize their talent: I just don’t like Kindt’s art and Deconnick’s extremely blunt-force feminism in her work just feels meh.

I recently went into my shop for my annual pull streamlining, which I call The Culling (and was called as much for many years prior to that recent, silly DC crossover). In the weeks leading up to The Culling, I was of course experiencing “much weeping and gnashing of teeth”. Saucer Country was on the bubble for a couple of different reasons. But lucky for me, I did a re-read of #1-8 which culminated in a first-reading of 9&10. I was 3 pgs into #9 when the chorus of seraphim kicked in. The first 2 issues of The Reticular Candidate arc sealed the deal. I will pull this one ’til it’s finale, and told my shop owner as much. It’s superb. I’ve even got a mind to rewatch some X-Files/Millennium. Ditto on Batwoman as well. To wit, the books I brought home for Christmas vacation with the family, in the hopes that I could share the awesomeness were: Batman, Batwoman, Hawkeye, Captain Marvel, Manhattan Projects, Saga, Rachel Rising and Saucer Country (big family…).
