I agree largely with your review. My complaint is that the comic takes up a lot of room introducing us to a universe we all clearly already know when it should be focusing on developing the characters more. What I’ll call the “voice over narration” takes up more room than the dialog. I think it should be stripped out and just let the art and dialog lead.

I feel like this comic’s strength is the chance to give us more insight on what motivates these characters that we didn’t necessarily see in the movies. I found a couple delightful ah-ha moments where I did feel I understood them better, especially Han Solo. I think he needs his own series (he doesn’t already have one, does he?). Seriously, maybe if Brian Wood would tell this from his point of view the whole time, it might hold my attention. But as it is I found myself skimming at about a dollar a minute pace, too expensive for me without a solid payoff.

Thanks again for the thoughtful reviews.

It still gives us the characters we love, while it also give us something new, logical and interesting to develop both in the story and in those characters. I do wonder how Han Solo will make the jump from plain rogue to rebellion helper.

I’m really enjoying this series. What I think I like best is that it isn’t trying to be too epic. You know how sometimes they have a story smack in the middle of existing continuity and the new interstitial tale is just WAY too epic for it to be something that wasn’t ever mentioned in the original stories.

This is just a nice filling in the blanks kinda thing. I don’t read this and wonder, “Why didn’t Han ever say anything about the time they did _______?”

I want more of that.
