Dean’s Top Picks

Best From The Past Week: Fantastic Four #586 – Since Marvel has teased the hell out of the fact that a member of the FF will die next issue, it was a challenge for Hickman to create tension when you kinda know what will happen next. He does a great job of putting all for the team in mortal danger in three separate scenarios that all happen to be next parts of the bigger story he is telling. Great! Runner-up: American Vampire #10
Most Anticipated: Detective Comics #872 – As much as I generally enjoy Morrison’s bigger Batman stories, sometimes it is just nice to see a well crafted Batman detective story that is devoid of weirdness. Scott Snyder & Jock’s debut issue on Detective Comics #871 gave us just that and I’m hoping there is no sophomore slump.
Other Picks: Scalped #44, Bulletproof Coffin #6, Hulk #28, Incognito: Bad Influences #2, Spider-Girl #2, Echoes #1
DS’ Top Picks

Best From The Past Week: Warlord of Mars #3 – This book stayed on top, despite so stiff competition, especially by Kirkham’s art on Green Lantern Corp #55. Lui Antonio has captured the cities of Barsoom so well it was hard to turn the pages and leave behind the art.
Most Anticipated: Batman: The Dark Knight #1 – Not only is Finch’s most excellent art driving me towards this new mini-series, but the log line (“Delving into the more supernatural and esoteric areas of Gotham City”) has me hooked as well.
Other Picks: Green Lantern #61, Teen Titans #90 (Damian Wayne underfoot), Captain America #613, S.H.I.E.L.D. #5, New Mutants #20, John Carter of Mars Weird Worlds Trade
Alex’s Top Picks

Best of the Past Week: Morning Glories #5 – Morning Glories absolutely killed it this week with what was probably it’s best, and certainly its most enjoyable, issue yet. Characters have never been more realized and Casey is emerging as one of the most awesome ladies in comics today. Joe Eisma also put out his best performance yet and I think that if the first issue looked like this, we’d’ve had far less grumbling on the art front.
Most Anticipated: Hulk #28 – My fellow WCBR staffers have converted me. I have accepted Jeff Parker and, *gasp*, Rulk into my life. I’ve caught up on this series and yeah, it’s really good. It’s the best Hulk comic I’ve read in years, Rulk or not, and that Gabriel Hardman art is so, so sweet. Give me more! But wow, seriously, what a great week of comics. Marvel and DC really are finishing up 2010 with a bang. Every comic on my pull list looks fantastic.
Other Picks: Detective Comics #872, Action Comics #896, The Flash #8, Green Lantern #61, Scalped #44, Avengers #8, Captain America #613, SHIELD #5, Secret Warriors #23
