Best of the past week: Batman #2 – Last week was one of those welcome light weeks that allows you to dig into back issues, original graphic novels and (gasp) non-fiction prose!  Nothing beyond Batman #2 really stood out in my pile.  Snyder is telling an interesting story about Bruce Wayne’s assumption that he knows everything about Gotham is going to bite him in the ass.  Pair that up with a top-10 artist like Capullo and you’ve got something very strong.

Most anticipated this week: Wolverine and the X-Men #1 – Unlike last week, this week is just jumbled with interesting books.  Seriously….look at “Other Picks” down below.  Even though there are some other books on that list that I’m excited to read, I was an X-Men kid back in the 80’s so it won’t get much bigger than a new status quo for the X-Men.  Plus, we’ve got a really strong creative team in Jason Aaron and Chris Bachalo.  Aaron has been nothing but good in his comic career, but this is his first team book.  And Chris Bachalo is one of my favorite artists.  I wish he could do more than a story arc here and there, but I’ll take what I can get.

Other picks this week: Lots of exciting books this week.  Scalped #53 is almost guaranteed to be excellent & there are only 7 issues left.  Spaceman #1 is the new Vertigo series from the creators of 100 Bullets.  Love Eduardo Risso’s art.  27 Second Set #2, Butcher Baker #7 and Vescell #3 are three great and offbeat series from Image.  The Walking Dead #90 should be good as TWD almost never disappoints.  Amazing Spider-Man #672 is the finale of Spider-Island which has been loads of fun (the Spider-Island minis all wrap this week too).   Captain America & Bucky #623 features the incredible art of Chris Samnee.  Daredevil #5 – DD has been a wonderful surprise for Marvel.  Just a year ago we had that horrid Shadowland…how we’ve got this wonderful DD series.  Incredible Hulk #1 featuring the first issue of Jason Aaron’s Hulk stories.  Secret Avengers #18 has been much improved since Warren Ellis came onboard.
