The Story: The END as Butcher Baker takes on Jihad Jones with other enemies lurking in the weeds.

A few things: 1). Nice to have an ending. – How many nifty non-Big 2 comic titles just kinda waste away after a couple of issues?  It happens a lot….often we get the first few issues on a monthly schedule, then there is a delay, then a longer delay and suddenly you look in your longbox and realize it has been over a year since you last saw a series.  Remember Nonplayer?  Still waiting on issue #2…  Remember Anna Mercury 2?  The last issue of that (#3) came out in January 2010.  Sometimes you just never get an ending.  So, let’s give Casey and Huddleston a round of applause for finishing business and not just leaving this fun collection of characters and their penises swaying in the breeze.

2). A little condensed & rushed. – This is a satisfying end for the characters, but it does feel a little rushed.  It’s more the feeling that there are 3-4 issues condensed into this single issue.  The result is that the issue feels really long even though I just counted and it’s a standard 20 pager.  Again, if I had to speculate, I’d guess that Casey and Huddleston wanted to be professional and finish the series, but knew they didn’t have another 6 issue cycle in them.

3). Still the BB that you loved. – My goodness there are a lot of penises in this comic….A lot of that comes from the initial naked fight between BB and Jihad Jones, but The Absolutely also spend a lot of time showing off her (?) dong.  It’s just fun to see a comic that isn’t strategically placing word balloons or artistic elements in front of the guys’ parts.  And when you see BB’s explanation of The Absolutely’s origin, you see that Casey isn’t pulling his punches when it comes to raunchy material.  It’s great.  I guess if this issue has a failing, it’s that there’s nothing incredibly innovative about the ending of the story.  It’s a fine ending, but nothing that’ll light your socks on fire.

4). Art is great, but has changed a little bit. – I did enjoy the art on this issue, but even though Huddleston is still mixing up the styles from panel to panel, I felt like the look and feel of these characters had changed since we last saw them.  I didn’t read that Dark Horse horror comic that he was drawing in the interim, but I wonder if working on that project altered his style a little bit?  Still, this is an amazing comic from an artistic standpoint.  I love the way Huddleston mixes and matches all these various styles, but my favorite is when he is at his sketchiest and scratchiest with the drawings of BB’s big rig.

Conclusion: A little rushed feeling, but at least we got an ending and the art is glorious.
